The Overlook Cabin Guide

Welcome to The Overlook in Big Canoe!

HOUSE RULES

TRASH NEEDS TO BE DROPPED OFF AT THE NORTH GATE TRASH FACILITY. Big Canoe doesn’t have garbage service (I know that sounds crazy), but you won’t see any huge trash trucks on those small mountain roads. So that means you need to take all trash to the North Gate convenience center dumpster. (Your not being singled out here everyone in Big Canoe – owners, renters and short term guests – all bring their garbage to the convenience center). Please note that trash bags can not be left outside. There are bears in the area, and it is important to be mindful of keeping anything food related out of reach and stored properly.

NO PETS. We market this property as such, and we have family members that are allergic to animal dander.

NO PARTIES PLEASE. We have very sweet neighbors and we are still friends, so help us to keep it that way! Please keep the parking on our property off the street. There is comfortable space for up to three vehicles in front of the cabin. No loud noise after 10pm please! You are in the woods, but noise carries. Keep music and conversation at reasonable levels.

PLUMBING EMERGENCIES SUCK. I’m sure you’ve heard this before, but please don’t put anything but toilet paper down the drains.

NO DRUGS OR ILLICIT ACTIVITY are allowed on the property. No smoking in the house, but smoking is welcome on decks and outside. Please don’t throw cigarette butts in the yard.

THIS PROPERTY IS NOT BABY/CHILDPROOF. Children of all ages are welcome, but it is the guardian’s responsibility to read through the warnings listed; watch, maintain control, and keep children safe at all times under the guardian’s supervision. By reserving this property, guests/renters agree that the whole party understands these rules and all will adhere to these rules.

NO SHOOTING of Fireworks on Property. No Shooting of Firearms or Weapons on the Property.

PLEASE MAKE SURE ALL FIRES ARE OUT before going to bed or leaving the property. Guests are prohibited from moving the logs on the indoor gas fireplaces.

TVs

The cabin is equipped with 6 ROKU Smart TVs. LIVE and LOCAL channels are provided through DirecTV Stream. Look for the DirecTV Stream Icon on the homescreen TV for access to 84+ channels. You can also stream your favorite content directly from these TVs with your favorite services including Netflix, Disney+, ESPN+, Prime Video, HULU, YouTube TV, and just about anything else. For a full list of TV apps, click here.

LIVE TV/LOCAL CHANNELS

Nervous because you don’t see a bulky Cable/Direct TV box in every room? How are you going to get live/local channels? Don’t worry! We pay for DirecTV’s Choice Package that carries 84+ channels, including local content. Look for the DirecTV icon on the home screen of the TV. For the DirecTV channel list, click here.

WIFI

WIFI NETWORK: 1124_deer_run

WIFI PASSWORD: grandvista1

You will notice throughout the cabin we have placed these little white round things with a light in them in the corners of the room. That is the Google mesh wifi network that spreads wireless throughout the cabin, so you can get strong signal everywhere. Please do not unplug them!

THERMOSTAT

The Overlook utilizes Ecobee thermostats. Just touch the screen to change the temperature. For more detailed instructions, click here. You may notice when you first arrive that the temperature is above or below normal, because is set to away mode. Not to worry, as you open the door, it senses you are home and will automatically heat/cool to the desired range. Due to the open concept connecting the main floor and the loft you can expect the top floor to be warmer than your setting.

GRILL

The propane grill outside is hooked up to the house propane line, and does not need a propane tank to operate.

TO LIGHT THE GRILL – first make sure that all burner valves are in the off position. Then, switch on the propane line where it comes through the deck on the bottom right side, so that the valve handle is inline with the propane line. Then turn the far left knob to the 9 o-clock position (black circle with a lightning bolt), then press the ignite button above the knob and hold down until it lights up. Then you can turn on the remaining burners.

WHEN YOU ARE DONE – please turn off the burners as well as the gas below. Also please empty the grease from the bottom tray below the grill when it cools off. NOTE – Please do not pour grease down the drains, as it will clog our septic system.

FIREPLACE

The Gas fireplaces can be lit by finding the grey remote – usually it’s found by the tv, coffee table, or fireplace itself. This fireplace has an electronic ignition, so you won’t see a pilot light at first, and it will take approx 30 seconds to light once the process has begun. To light the fireplace, press two buttons at the same time…The lower button on the left with the red circle, and the upper button on the right. If you’ve done it correctly, you will begin to hear a series of clicks that signal that the lighting process has started.

FIREPIT

The outdoor firepit is started much like a grill. The controls are located on the base facing the driveway. To light, begin by pressing the ignition button on the left (it will start to click) while also pushing in the gas knob and turning to allow gas to flow. Alternatively, you can use a lighter stick held at the burner while turning the gas knob. DANGER – This method is for experienced gas users only, as you can burn your hand if you’re not careful. Please turn off the firepit when you are done, but don’t place the cover back until the firepit cools down.

POOL TABLE/PING PONG

The pool table downstairs has a convertible ping pong table top that can be installed on top. Please monitor the kids around the table to prevent any more damage and potential charges to the guest. Thanks!

ARCADE

Turn the arcade table on by locating the power toggle on the lower right hand side, closest to the wall. Give it about 2 minutes to fire up, and you’re ready. Please turn the arcade off when you are done.
